This is the first otome game released outside Japan. If you own a PSP, you can now play the first chapter of Hakuouki (Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan) in English.

Here is my opinion about the game, after several hours of playing through it.

If you never played an Otome Game before (like me ^^), here is the concept:
You play as a young girl (here, Yukimura Chizuru, but you can change her name for more fan-service...What? Don't you want Okita to cry your name for love? XD) and you have to go through several chapters, narrated from the player's point of view. Sometimes, you have to choose between some options that will change the scenario, allowing you to pick the guy you like the most between plenty of bishies.
Here is the major problem...The options are not really clear...I mean, you don't really choose who you want to pick up because the options are random. For example:
In the general route, a mission is given to the Shinsengumi: They have to protect a notice board somewhere in the town. At the same time, Chizuru, aware of the story of the rasetsu is worriyng. So you have to choose between two options:
-I'm worried about the notice board
-I'm worried about the Rasetsus
If you pick the notice board option, then, you'll have another cutscene and then you'll have to choose what your feelings are about the story (note that if you chose the other option, you'll have nothing at all):
-I feel Complicated
-I feel Strange.
Then, if you pick the first option, you'll have one romance point with Hijikata, if you pick the second option you'll have one romance point with Harada....
This is not always like this but, I really think it's a little random. I'd prefered options more related to the characters.

By the way, once you finished the General route, and regarding your higher romance gauge, you'll have to go through one of the Bishies route: Hijikata's route, Okita's route...etc.
Here again, you'll have to choose several options to maximize your romance gauge and finally get the good ending.
Then, you would surely want to unlock every CGs, so you have to pick some bad options for this, replaying some of the chapters by choosing the "record of service" option. (The record of service is a menu option where you can see every chapters you finished and replay it whenever you want)

For those who like actions, the game will surely seem really boring. I was afraid at the beginning, but, finally, I think I enjoyed the game, being fan of Hakuouki.

I already finished Hijikata's, Saitou's, Okita's, Harada's and Kazama's routes.
I really think Hijikata's and Okita's route are the best (beside Okita is none of my fav').
