In a letter on the city’s website Sunday, Meridian Mayor Robert Simison announced that the city will be taking over ownership and operations at Lakeview Golf Club.

Meridian has owned the land that the course currently sits on for approximately 22 years, since 1978. While the buildings, equipment and overall operations have been under the direction of Lakeview investors. With the announcement that said investors will be leaving the business, Mayor Simison said it only makes sense that the city takes ownership with the assistance of a purchase agreement by Western Ada Recreation District (WARD). The purchase will cover all Lakeview Golf Course assets, including the clubhouse, machinery, golf carts and the liquor license, not to mention the lease.

This sale, contingent upon a proposed management agreement between the city of Meridian and WARD, will solidify the purchase of Lakeview Golf Club on the condition that the city would be in charge of maintenance and operation of the facility as well as all assets.

“Lakeview Golf Club is an important part of our community, and I am committed to ensuring this asset is properly maintained and operated with needed improvements made to the course,” Mayor Simison wrote.

The Meridian Parks and Recreation Department is working on a master plan for the golf course while keeping disruptions to current services at a minimum. A topic of concern is how this transition will impact Lakeview customers. During this transition, the Parks and Recreation Department will be welcoming public opinion and concern.

You can view the discussion on their short-term management and transition plan, as it was presented to the Meridian City Council, here (at minute 56).

“I am excited about the future of Lakeview. We have a premier Parks and Recreation Department who are up for this exciting new challenge,” Mayor Simison wrote. “By adding the golf course to our list of public services and taking the opportunity to make this beloved recreational activity available to even more Meridian residents, we can continue our Parks and Recreation Departments efforts to provide Quality. Community. Fun.”

WARD was initially established to help provide recreational activities that the city was unable to provide, including the building of the Meridian Community Pool which WARD has also asked the city to take over operations of.
